Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI) is a female-founded, women led, non-profit with over 13 years experience empowering women and girls with information, knowledge and skills they need to thrive.

1 in 3 women and girls in Nigeria continue to face gender inequalities and violence thereby denying them access to justice, education, and livelihood opportunities. These challenges only serve to perpetuate the cycles of poverty, inequality, and marginalization, and also undermine  the well-being and rights of women and girls.

It is in line with this that we are looking for qualified candidate to fill the role of Legal Empowerment Officer

About the Role

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in strengthening our community’s legal knowledge and access to justice. You will be responsible for managing a team of paralegals, fostering relationships with network members, key stakeholders, and leading impactful legal empowerment projects.  

Job Description

  • Plan, coordinate and implement program activities through working directly and closely with supervisory lawyers, paralegals, the management team and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement community outreach and education programs to raise awareness of legal rights and resources.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with government and community stakeholders, including local authorities, legal aid organizations, and community leaders.
  • Manage and develop the capacity of a team of community based paralegals on a variety of legal issues relevant to their communities.
  • Manage IWEI networks
  • Conduct research and identify emerging legal issues affecting the target community.
  • Advocate for policy changes that promote access to justice and legal rights.
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports on project activities and outcomes for donors and the organisation.


  • A minimum of a university degree or its equivalent in law and public policy.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in legal practices, policy analysis and project management.  
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven experience in managing and developing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, manage, and monitor projects effectively.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.
  • Fluency in Hausa language and  English language proficiency is a must.
  • Experience working with government and community stakeholders is preferred.
  • Passion for social justice and community development.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with diverse communities.
  • Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office Suite).
